It all started when I became a sanitation worker back in 2020. I was definitely not cis passing nor straight passing, working beside men who weren’t used to someone like me. A few people grew to like me once they saw I could shovel quicker, throw farther, and smash stuff better than anyone. I fell in love with the world again. Colors took new pigments in the decay, mold, rust, and blood. My supervisor would yell at me for taking pictures of everything I had to throw away, it was just hard to say goodbye at times.
